Promoting Religious Emblems: Round Table Presentation

(10 Minute Presentation) 

Objectives:

·         To provide an overview and general understanding of the religious emblems programs

·         To encourage leaders to make presentations on the religious emblems programs to their units

·         To become familiar with the resources to make a presentation on the religious emblems programs

 Resources

·         Duty to God brochure (SKU 512879)

Full color brochure picturing the religious emblems of all faiths and listing the contact information for each. Provide one per participant. Available from your local council (your council may order these brochures from BSA National Religious Relationships); also available in printable form at www.praypub.org.

·         Separate scripts for presentations to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers

These scripts contain all the basic information about religious emblems, i.e. getting started on the programs, square knots, devices, setting goals, etc. – Available at www.praypub.org

·         Video “Promoting Duty to God (Religious Emblems)”

This 7-minute video features Scouts and Scouters of different faiths talking about the benefits of the religious emblems programs – It is included in the DVD: “Resources for Promoting Duty to God” available for sale at www.praypub.org

·         “Duty to God Promotion Patch” Handout

This handout describes the four-segment puzzle patch, which may be earned by any youth or adult who learns about the religious emblems and then makes a commitment to Duty to God. 

Presentation:

1.                   Show video on Religious Emblems (7 minutes) from DVD “Resources for Promoting Duty to God”

2.                   Explain that adult leaders are encouraged to make presentations on religious emblems to their units. Free resources are available.  Two of the most important resources are the Duty to God Brochure/chart, and sample scripts for making presentations to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturer Crews. Distribute copies of these handouts and quickly review them. If time permits, review other resources (visit www.praypub.org).

3.                   Explain to leaders that if they make a presentation on religious emblems to their units, their Scouts will be eligible for the “Duty to God Promotion Patch” which is a special four-segment puzzle patch. Any youth or adult who learns about the religious emblems and then makes a commitment to Duty to God, may earn this patch. Distribute handouts about this patch.
